Big Data - a Big Deal for the Medical Community
Much has been talked about the coming age of data-driven medicine, including catch phrases such as “personalized medicine” and “precision medicine”. But why is an approach based on the comprehensive collection of data so different from traditional evidence-based medicine utilizing small data? And why do some call “Big Data” not a new technology or a new toolkit, but rather a “new perspective on reality”? These are some of the questions that this talk – taking the process of discovery as a starting point – aims to respond to, and by doing so helping the medical community to comprehend the potential value of data-driven approaches in medicine.
